Since 2012, tenants have immediate security of tenure when they sign a lease. What this means is that a tenant on a periodic lease can continue renting for as long as they choose. In order for a landlord to evict a tenant they have to have legal cause. Prior to 2012, a landlord could evict a tenant for any reason with one month’s notice.
